What My Children Are Reading - 11/28/09

It wasn't as exciting a book week as last week for us. We read & reread many of our Thanksgiving books, see last week's reading post and preschool post for more details. :o) I do plan to put together a post wrapping up our Thanksgiving unit, so check back for that one. Faith also wrote a few book reviews for school, which we submitted to and were published at ABC&123, so she was quite excited about those!

In non-Thanksgiving news, we did find two cute winners in our new-from-the-library pile.

The Hair of Zoe Fleefenbacher Goes to School by Laurie Halse Anderson - Zoe is born with wild fluffy hair that has a mind of its own. Zoe's parents love her wild & crazy hair. Zoe's kindergarten teacher finds her hair endearing. But Zoe's first grade teacher isn't so happy. School has rules and there is no place in her class for hair that is out of control. Zoe tries to tame her hair, but realizes that there is a place for her & her hair after all. Faith really liked this one, although I would like to point out that her hair is not wild & crazy & helpful, it's just wild & crazy & knotted because she doesn't like it brushed. ;o)

Big Wolf & Little Wolf by Nadine Brun-Cosme - Big Wolf lives alone in the woods until one day, a little wolf comes by. Big Wolf is not happy, what if this little wolf grows to become his competition? But slowly, he starts to warm up to the little wolf--sharing his blanket, his meals, teaching the little wolf to climb the trees. One morning, he wakes up to find Little Wolf gone and realizes that life is quite lonely without his little friends. He waits for him for days, till one day the little wolf returns as he was lonely without Big Wolf as well. All three of us liked this one; it's just a simple sweet friendship story.

We'll be reading more again next week, of course. We pulled out our big bag of Christmas books and Faith & I will be back at the library on Monday to scope out some new titles too!
