I took the kids Tuesday afternoon to turn in some of their summer reading. Faith finished her Borders' program a couple of weeks ago. She read 10 books and chose Miss Daisy is Crazy from their list of prizes.
She also just finished her Barnes & Noble one, another 8 books, and got to choose from their list. She chose Judy Moody & Stink: The Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad Treasure Hunt. Following that, we headed over to Half Price Books where she turned in her sheets for reading at least 15 minutes per day, 5 days per week. We had two of those to turn in as well and she received two $3 gift cards. Since you can only spend one at once, we used one today and saved the other for another trip. She chose a new Geronimo Stilton book, Wedding Crashers.
Unlike Borders, which seemed geared towards older kids, Barnes & Nobles had lots more choices for the younger crowd, so Mr. Ben got to partcipate too. He read 8 books with Mommy, Daddy or Faith, as well as the additional 15 minutes per day! He chose Last One In Is a Rotten Egg at Barnes & Noble. He also got two Half Price Books gift cards and spent one. He & I browsed the bargain book section and he actually found six books he wanted that totaled $3! He picked Hooray for Thomas!, Building the New School, Working Hard with the Mighty Dump Truck, M&M and the Haunted House, Ghoul School Rules, and The One in the Middle Is the Green Kangaroo. The latter three are simple chapter books that I'm hoping he'll enjoy!
I'm so proud of my little readers! We'll read more this week for another Half Price Books gift card, we've tucked all these books aside for our plane ride.
