Honoring Those Who Serve with #DeliciousPairings from Starbucks & Sam's Club

I love projects that just *work* for us, and a project with a Veteran's Day spin on it is definitely one that is for our family.  Could we possibly find some soldiers or veterans to thank with Starbucks holiday blend coffee and Sam's Club Artisan Fresh pastries?  I don't know, living on an Army base and all, it's hard to find hungry soldiers who might want something yummy to eat.

Getting set to brew our coffee, I love the way it makes the house smell!

We started off with a trip to Sam's Club where we perused the bakery section to check out what kinds of Artisan Fresh items they had.  We decided on Cinnamon Crunch muffins and Snickerdoodle cookies, which were recommended as Delicious Pairings with the Starbucks Limited Edition Holiday Blend.  Despite my best efforts, I walked past the coffee aisle a couple of times until one of the employees took pity on me and found me the coffee.

We brought it home, and the Army husband offered to help by being a volunteer soldier to sample the goodies.  As you can well imagine, it involved a lot of arm-twisting on my part. ;o)  We brewed the coffee at home (as we typically do, though I'm a Starbucks Peppermint Mocha or Pumpkin Spice Latte fan during the right season in-store). The coffee was recommended to pair with ginger, pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg, orange, or cloves, and we really enjoyed it with the Cinnamon Crunch muffins.

Off to work!

After sampling it at home, I brewed another full pot of coffee and filled one of our travel thermoses for the husband to take to work (amazingly, his work is filled with hungry soldiers).  I put together a quick tray of muffins and cookies and sent him off to work to feed the masses.

Coffee, muffins and cookies in the arms' room (as texted by the husband)
The background amuses me greatly.

While at work, he texted me a few pictures (so please, excuse the quality), but needless to say, he came home with an empty tray.  A few of the guys were working with him in the arms room, so they were snacking as they worked, then as everyone else filtered through for various reasons, they grabbed some treats too.  Definitely a much appreciated #DeliciousPairings!

Some of the husband's colleagues enjoying the snacks, also texted to me
(I did feel it necessary to blur out the faces, for privacy reasons.)

And when you're out shopping after Thanksgiving, Sam’s Club will open at 7am on Black Friday and will greet members with free Starbucks Holiday Blend coffee and Artisan Fresh pastries (while supplies last).   It's definitely on my list.

  4. I wonder how much you can keep up the treat for your husband's mates? LOL. 'coz I am pretty sure, they want to have another yummy goodies from you. How about giving those 'hungry soldiers' another treat with chocolate from Hershey's. LOL. They maybe a strong-hearted men who fight for the country, but I am sure they love sweets. I am sure if they'll get the idea, they will be absolutely happy thinking about it.

Hi! I enjoyed reading this post. Watching grown men, who are undoubtedly tough, enjoy pastries and a good cup of coffee is extremely adorable. My grandfather was a veteran and my uncle used to be in the Air Force thus soldiers are close to my heart and the simple gesture that you did may be small to many but to me and people like me, it speaks volumes. Thank you and continue being as sweet as you are :)

  6. Hi Shannon,

I salute you for honoring the men of the army. This simple but sweet gesture will make them feel appreciated. I know that being a wife is full of hard work specially when your husband is serving the country. My father is also in the military and I know how my mom take good care of him. By the way the picture you have posted makes me grab cup of Starbucks coffee and a chocolate muffin. Hope I can offer anything to help you with what you are doing. Please send me a message so I can do my best to help. Keep it up.
