Doodle Your Summer Away

One of the things I love about summer is the time to relax, unwind, and just be creative.

We really try to incorporate creativity into our days, whether through coloring books, art projects, or just simple doodling, and we received some great books to inspired our creativity this summer.

Stick It To 'Em: Playful Stickers to Color and Create by Bailey Fleming was the girl's favorite book for crafting.  Page after page of stickers are line drawn in black and white and just begging for color.  She quickly realized that sharpies were perfect to fill them in and set to work decorating a bunch for her school items.  The book also includes tips to doodle some of your own stickers and some pre-colored stickers for quick use.

Dangles: Creating Decorative Letters and Art with Charms by Olivia Kniebler was also a ton of fun.  The reader learns how to make simple 3D letters and drawings and them embellish them with hanging charm doodles (hence the term "dangles").  I love the ways these turned out for us, the heart above is one of Faith's rough sketches for practice.  We're decorating letters for her to label some of her other school items this year.

Hand Lettering A to Z by Abbey Ly was the third book in the girl's pile.  It definitely had a steeper learning curve than the other two books, but the results were lovely.  The book taught the basics of hand lettering in a variety of styles, in order to create designs, quotes, and more.  We'll be practicing with this one for some time to come, as both of us are working on making things look good!

All books are published through Quarto Group and available on Amazon.  Besides summer fun, we think they'd be a great back to school treat or Christmas gift.

Disclosure: We received copies of all three books from Quarto Group. All opinions (and Faith's sketches) are our own.
