The reason they had a carbon monoxide detector was that a few weeks ago, the boiler had malfunctioned and almost killed the entire family, so you can imagine that I was very much on edge and absolutely not leaving the baby in the house whilst I tried to sort it out. Only I wasn't leaving the baby on her own in the garden either... We have so many that I have been known to do that. And we also have the two device problem. Our Carbon Monoxide devices are dual but the smoke detectors are wired into the house so we could not remove them. Complete overkill.
