What My Children Are Reading - 9/4/10

I forgot about this lovely little meme, even after participating in it multiple times.

Since we are back to school around here, both kids have been busy at work reading.

As previously mentioned, Ben has decided since he is in kindergarten, that he will learn how to read. So far, he's read several of our various Saxon Phonics Readers, plus:

Bob Books, Set 1: Beginning Readers - the first 4-5 of these, we've been hopping around a bit
Hop on Pop by Dr. Seuss - This was possibly his favorite this week as he was able to read about 80% of it on his own!
Go, Dog. Go! by PD Eastman - We started working on this one too, but it's got more blends than we've done, so there was a greater split of both of us reading, compared to Hop On Pop.

Miss Faith has also been rather busy with reading. She finished one of her last Magic Treehouse packets last week and I don't think we will do more of those. She's reading Cam Jansen & the Summer Camp Mysteries so she can do a mystery book report. She also has a daily reading assignment--her choice of book, but at least reading for 20 minutes. No arguments from her there!

Judy Moody: Around the World in 8 1/2 Days by Megan McDonald - Faith got one of this series from a friend of mine when she broke her legs and has really enjoyed them. I think the little girl in the book is in third grade. :o)
The Mouse Island Marathon (Geronimo Stilton, # 30) - She still loves Geronimo Stilton, there were 3 in her library bag, although she decided she does not like the comic book style ones. I don't blame her, I never liked reading comics either. They don't flow well.
My Weird School #17: Miss Suki Is Kooky! by Dan Gutman - Faith got the first one in this series from the Borders summer reading program. She really liked that series too, so she read a bunch in Canada and then some more as we've been going to the library here.

I'm loving the series books for her right now, it makes grabbing a few books so much easier!

  1. Thanks for joining WMCIR! Good luck to Ben on his road to reading. When Anna was starting she enjoyed Margaret Hillert early readers, but I think they are based rather on sight reading than on phonics. I am still looking for an appropriate series for her - it's kind of challenging to have a 4 year old who reads as a seven year old, but doesn't have the same maturity or experience.
