2011 and My New Reading List Goals

It's the most wonderful time of the year!

OK, no it's not, technically, I believe that Christmas is supposed to be the most wonderful time of the year. However, there is something amazing about January 1st, and a whole new list of books that are just dying to be read and cataloged as new year reads.

I slacked off a bit last year, with my annual 50 book challenge. If you count rereads (Harry Potter, Faye Kellerman's series, the Little House on the Prairie books, a couple of more rereads of The Eight), I probably came rather close, but my typical goal is 50 *new* books per year, not 50 books I've already read to the point where I can recite parts of them by heart. I also completely forgot to list the ones I did read on Goodreads, which has me as only reading about 30 books last year. I know I read others as there is a pile by my bed, I just need to figure out which ones.

So in that spirit, I'm starting my 2011 reading-list with books I already own or received for Christmas, before buying anything new:

1. Cross Fire by James Patterson
2. Port Mortuary by Patricia Cornwell
3. Decision Points by George W. Bush
4. Ana's Story: A Journey of Hope by Jenna Bush
5. The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett
6. World Without End by Ken Follett
7. Swim to Me by Betsy Carter
8. The Charlemagne Pursuit by Steve Berry
9. The Last Secret of the Temple by Paul Sussman
10. Look Me in the Eye by John Elder Robison
11. The Birth of Venus by Sarah Dunant
12. The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory

Hopefully, this is the first 12 of 50, then just 38 more after that (suggestions always welcome).

  1. Aww I went looking for Decision Points yesterday and couldn't find it. Thanks for listing these. I will have to look them up.

  2. Check out my goodreads list for more suggestions but... (I have no idea if you've read these yet or not)

    The Story of Edgar Sawtelle
    The Time Traveller's Wife
    Outlander
Jack Reacher series by Lee Child
The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (excellent series, very graphic though)
Julie Kenner's Soccer Mom Demon Series
    The Hunger Games series

I have more if you want! :-) Happy reading. I fell short of my 100 books goal in 2010 so I'm trying for it again.

  3. Water for Elephants was great, I really enjoyed it.

Sarah's Key is one of the best books I've ever read, it still haunts me to this day.
