With all of the chaos in the last little while, we ended up missing the media premiere of Disney Pixar's Onward in Denver.
And then, the movie theaters closed with stay-at-home orders and I didn't even get to go see it on the big screen at all.
Thankfully, Disney came to the rescue for all their fans, releasing Onward to home viewing much sooner than anticipated, with the option to purchase it streaming on March 20 and stream on Disney+ on April 3.
Of course, we had to enjoy a family movie night, complete with popcorn and other snacks to make up for the fact that we didn't get to see it in the theater. But it's not like I have objections to a family night on the couch with blankets and the dog too.
In Onward, teenage elf brothers Ian and Barley Lightfoot (voices of Tom Holland and Chris Pratt) get an unexpected opportunity to spend one more day with their late dad, embarking on an extraordinary quest aboard Barley’s epic van Guinevere. Like any good quest, their journey is filled with magic spells, cryptic maps, impossible obstacles and unimaginable discoveries. But when the boys’ fearless mom Laurel (voice of Julia Louis-Dreyfus) realizes her sons are missing, she teams up with a part-lion, part-bat, part-scorpion, former warrior – aka The Manticore (voice of Octavia Spencer) – and heads off to find them. Perilous curses aside, this one magical day could mean more than any of them ever dreamed.
Disney even sent out a pack of awesome Onward printables, including a memory game, maze, and coloring pages. You can download it right here for yourself too!
While we're still a little disappointed that we didn't get to see Onward in theaters, we're so happy that at least we didn't have to wait several months to enjoy it. This streaming thing might just be OK!
